Texas residents who are not eligible for federal aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) due to their citizenship status may be eligible for state or institutional aid by completing the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). The TASFA is typically available each year on October 1. For 2025-2026, the TASFA application will become available when the FAFSA becomes widely available in December 2024. Each year, the state publishes a priority deadline - the priority deadline for 2025-2026 TASFA will be February 15, 2025.

Apply for State Aid through the TASFA Application

1. Complete the paper or electronic TASFA application
2. Submit the SB1528 Residency Affidavit to Office of Admissions (First-time applicants)
3. Gather the following income documents:
   1. Student (Spouse) signed tax return or tax return transcript for the applicable tax year.
      1. 2025-2025 TASFA uses the 2023 tax year information
   2. Student (Spouse) W2 forms for the applicable tax year
      1. 2025-2026 TASFA uses the 2023 tax year information
   3. Parent(s) signed tax return transcript for the applicable tax year (for dependent students only)

   4. Parent(s) W2 forms for the applicable tax year
